About The Books...

Why get them, if they are free to read online? Because having a physical book is a sensual, and portable, experience. Books aren't just their contents, they are also the experience of holding and having them. And they can be enjoyed with no wait times, and no fear of server outages.

Why are they so expensive? We don't make any money on them; the cost is because they are not mass-produced. LULU is print-on-demand, each copy being made one-at-a-time. Books published by giant corporations for mass markets can do so cheaply because of printing in volume. It is expensive to buy the materials to make just one of something, but vastly cheaper to buy the materials to make a million of something, thanks to volume discount.

So why aren't these books available through huge corporate publishers? These are not normal books, nor normal stories, nor normal art, they cannot ever appeal to the mass market. This is not something the average person would ever want, or even want to see, much less buy. No corporate publisher would touch them with a 60-foot pole. These are eclectic, fringe works, rare and unusual, and you can't get that sort of thing published by a big corporation. There is no profit in it.

If you don't make any money off of these, why do you do them? Because I must, because it is my art, such as it is, because it is beautiful, and weird, and one-of-a-kind in the world. Because it is a marvel and a wonder and that is worth my time in this drab world. If it is worth your time too, why not buy a book for yourself, or for someone weird enough to enjoy it?
